The pandemic has undoubtedly changed the way we work. The complexity of teamwork has increased as teams are more global, virtual and project-driven.
Dr Carl Gavin, Senior Lecturer in Project Management at AMBS, UOM travelled to Singapore to lecture in this ‘Leading and Managing in a Global Environment’ Masterclass Series. The ‘Leading a Winning Team!’ Masterclass took place on 9 March 2022 at our centre. Dr Carl shared insights from his experience directing and managing large-scale projects for a diverse range of organisations. He also gave participants strategies to manage effective and dynamic working relationships within an organisational group.
Students and alumni participated enthusiastically in this hands-on, face-to-face Masterclass as they weighed the advantages and disadvantages of decision-making in groups and teams. They also further analysed the working relationship in a group setting. Group discussions were engaging, even while maintaining the safe distance of one metre apart.
It was a fruitful Masterclass, all thanks to Dr Carl’s sharing of his extensive knowledge and for the students and alumni in making the effort to participate wholeheartedly. Teamwork thrived!
SPEAKER PROFILE Dr Carl Gavin Senior Lecturer Alliance Manchester Business School
Carl is a Senior Lecturer in Project Management at AMBS, UOM, with a focus on executive education. He is also the Programme Director of three executive education programmes for BAE Systems and BP.
Carl has experience directing and managing large-scale projects for a diverse range of organisations. Prior to joining AMBS, Carl was Managing Director of a project-based software development company. The company developed software simulation applications for Shell and various councils and universities, winning a number of innovation awards.
